Regulatory Compliance and Risk Manager

A leading payments and risk management solutions provider is seeking an experienced and commercially focused Regulatory Compliance and Risk Manager to oversee and maintain compliance with Australian regulatory frameworks governing payment services and foreign exchange derivatives.

This senior position requires an individual with significant experience working with regulators, strong negotiation skills and a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape. You will play a key role in managing the company’s obligations with regulators such as ASIC, AUSTRAC, and APRA, while acting as a trusted advisor to ensure regulatory requirements are met and risks are managed effectively.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Serve as the compliance officer or key person under the applicable Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) and AUSTRAC registration

  • Manage interactions with ASIC, AUSTRAC, and other relevant APAC regulators

  • Oversee the accurate and timely submission of regulatory reports, including breach reporting, AML/CTF compliance reports, and derivative transaction reports

  • Provide expertise on obligations under Australian regulations such as the Corporations Act, ASIC Act, and AML/CTF Act

  • Maintain and update the AML/CTF Program and ensure audit readiness and transaction monitoring

  • Contribute to compliance frameworks to safeguard client money, aligning with ASIC and AUSTRAC expectations

  • Work with internal teams (Legal, Sales, Finance, Operations, IT) to ensure regulatory requirements are embedded in business processes

  • Maintain and improve the risk management framework, including risk registers and incident reporting

  • Support regulatory change initiatives and training relevant to the APAC business

  • Perform additional tasks and projects as directed by the Head of Regulatory Compliance

What You Need

  • Extensive experience in regulatory compliance within an Australian financial institution, particularly in payments or foreign exchange
  • Deep knowledge of Australian regulatory obligations, particularly those set by ASIC, AUSTRAC, and the Corporations Act
  • Familiarity with AFSL obligations, AML/CTF laws, and relevant reporting expectations under RG 78, RG 104, and RG 146
  • Exposure to FX derivative products (e.g., forwards, options) and transaction reporting regimes
  • Strong commercial focus with a proven track record of successful negotiation with regulators
  • Senior-level experience in leading compliance and risk functions
  • Strong understanding of client money handling and safeguarding standards in the Australian market
  • Experience in project management and working cross-functionally in a multinational environment
  • High level of organisation, attention to detail, and initiative
  • Ability to work confidently in a fast-paced environment and navigate regulatory ambiguity
