Lead Data Scientist – UK – Insurance

Highly experienced Lead Data Scientist is required by a large global Insurance business to join their existing Data Science team to provide deep technical expertise in shaping their data and tech strategy. Reporting to board level, the Lead Data Scientist will be responsible for providing actual solutions to business challenges and developing high-business-impact tools that are not yet in the market. You will be a proactive partner who provides deep insight on the latest data science techniques with a focus on Privacy-Preserving AI and Large Language Models.

As a Lead Data Scientist, you will lead the workstream on Privacy-Preserving AI and define use-cases, conduct PoC and support entities on the topic. You will provide expertise, advice, and guidance on matters relating to the application of AI in business activities to business leaders, functional leaders, and strategic programs executive managers. You will coordinate with entities’ business stakeholders to understand the operational needs and translate business needs into solutions.

You will also apply data science tools to solve business challenges, including machine learning and visualisation, collect and analyse internal and external data to find relationships and insights. You will implement algorithms and procedures and ensure performance and robustness over time. You will mentor and advise junior (or less experienced) data scientists or PhD candidates.

As a Lead Data Scientist, you will be expected to lead and organize technical teams and support management in technical decisions and build relationships with academia and industry. You should have an understanding of AI, quantum, IOT, and other emerging technologies.

Ideally you will have:

• a Master’s degree, or PhD in finance, actuarial, mathematics, statistics, physics, or similar
• work experience in data processing, machine learning tools and libraries, databases, big data tools, data visualization, and web scripting
• Understanding of Privacy Preserving AI concepts, including federated learning, differential privacy, and synthetic data generation is essential
• Experience in Large Language Models is a plus
• Good programming skills in Python or R, ideally, and work experience in cloud computing and modern distributed computing frameworks, such as Spark, are preferred
